House Bill 1037 has advanced in Olympia to the House Committee on Finance! The Committee will discuss our bill at 8:00 AM on Monday, February 24. Submit a letter of support to the committee members, encouraging them to support the bill. We’ve written a sample letter below that you can either send as is, or personalize it, and then simply hit SEND EMAIL and it will be sent to them.

If you’re just joining the conversation, we have bills before the Washington State Legislature to modify the Public Facilities District (PFD) statute, allowing us to form the most ideal taxing district to make the community center a reality. A PFD is the most attractive financing option because it allows funding through sales tax (not just property tax), allowing us to collect funds from visitors to our community to help fund the facility.

Our community has long envisioned a Community Recreation Center where residents of all ages can gather to focus on health, wellness, and a stronger sense of connection. This legislation would enable the formation of a Public Facilities District in Upper County, making this vision a reality.

The Upper Kittitas County Community Recreation Center project is well underway. The project has secured 12 acres of land, completed a feasibility study, and is finalizing construction documents with an architectural firm.

This essential facility will serve kids, seniors, and everyone in between, offering a welcoming space for year-round activities. With your support, we can take a vital step toward making this dream come true.
